Over the years our skin loses collagen and elastin. There are non-invasive aesthetic treatments, with which we can alleviate this tone loss in our skin and achieve excellent and visible results from the first sessions. Today, from Dr. Obregón Reina clinic, we want you to get to know one of these treatments better: carboxytherapy.
The initial objective of this technique, created by French cardiologists, was to treat patients with arterial disease. It consists of injecting CO2 under pressure, achieving an increase in oxygen that irrigates the tissue, easing collagen synthesis. In addition to fighting looseness, the adipocytes destruction is also achieved, so it also helps to treat localized fat.
How is carboxytherapy applied?
Carboxytherapy is performed through a device that distributes CO2 subcutaneously in a controlled manner. A very fine needle is used with which CO2 is infiltrated into the epidermis to irrigate the area being treated and, consequently, promote collagen synthesis.
Therapeutic benefits of carboxytherapy
Carboxytherapy or CO2 infiltration as a medical therapy has many benefits:
- Promotes venous, arterial and lymphatic microcirculation
- Increases collagen production
- Has lipolytic effect
- Improves acute arthritis
- Improves peripheral arterial disease
- Helps fight psoriasis
- Varicose and capillary ulcers
Aesthetic benefits of carboxytherapy
Carboxytherapy can also achieve a great microcirculation improvement, whose malfunction is one of the main cause of cellulite, increasing the speed of blood flow and reducing fluid retention between cells, destroying fat and decreasing fibrosis.
In addition, C02 infiltration favors and stimulates collagen synthesis, which visibly improves flaccidity. It is also used very efficiently to conceal stretch marks, scars and burns as it helps to regenerate tissue affected by fibrosis.
At the facial level, carboxytherapy has multiple applications, such as the treatment of dark circles under the eyes, since it favors a good blood supply.
In a few sessions, the natural local metabolism, the toxins elimination and adipose tissue destruction is stimulated and the fibrosis formation is avoided, which is highly recommended after liposuction, for example.
In how many sessions can the effects of carboxytherapy be appreciated?
As in any treatment, medical or aesthetic, the time necessary to appreciate the desired results will depend both on the area of the body that is treated, and on the physical conditions of each patient; normally 10-15 sessions are enough to obtain visible results. If the treated area is on the face, the sessions are usually fewer, although the professional’s assessment in each case will be the one that best guides us.
What care should be followed after CO2 treatment?
Carboxytherapy is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that does not require further care after its application. Although you may feel slight discomfort or itching during the treatment, as well as slight redness, these will disappear after a short time and do not pose any risk to your health. The most important thing is that you stay hydrated by drinking at least 1.5 liters of water a day. It is also recommended that you eat a good balanced diet, where there is no shortage of fruits and vegetables, which will help you obtain better results and make them last longer.
