Acute colonic diverticulitis is a very common acute intestinal pathology in our environment. The exact cause for colon diverticulosis is not known, but probably an increase in intraluminal pressure of the intestine will favor the formation of diverticula. Many patients are asymptomatic or have little discomfort, but some will develop frequent symptoms, recurrent infections, and even serious complications such as peritonitis and intestinal perforation. Treatment of acute infection consists of antibiotics, drainage, or surgical resection of the diseased intestinal segment.
Techniques:
- Laparoscopic intestinal resection
- Laparoscopic drainage
