Abscesses and Fistula

The formation of abscesses (collections of pus) in the perianal area produces significant pain, increased volume and other systemic symptoms such as fever that require urgent drainage.

Many times, these abscesses become chronic and lead to the formation of fistulas (which are abnormal communications between the interior of the anus and the perianal skin). Fistulas can also occur secondary to other diseases such as Crohn’s Disease, previous surgeries, radiotherapy, cancer, etc.
